Our class had a fantastic trip with the Hebridean Whale and Dolphin Trust. We got to visit their research boat called the Silurian and learn all about whales and dolphins. It was such an exciting day and we all had lots of fun.

Sofia told us, “We left school and walked to the pontoon. We put on life jackets and went on a speedboat to the main boat. I loved the little speedboat that took us to the big boat. I loved when we got splashed by the waves!”

When we arrived at the Silurian, the crew showed us around the boat and told us about the important research they do. We saw a special microphone that goes under the sea to hear dolphins and whales. Maisie said, “We saw the microphone that they put under the sea to hear the dolphins and whales and the noises they make.”

We also learned how the crew lives on the boat while they are doing research. Maisie told us about a fun challenge where they had to search for vegetables and cookies so we could learn where the crew keeps their food.

Syd said, “I got to go in the tool room and see the drills the crew use to fix the boat when there is a problem.” We thought it was really interesting to see all the equipment on board.

Ralph said, “I think the boat was very good.” We all agreed with him because the trip was amazing and we learned so many new things.

Thank you to the crew of the Silurian for giving us such a brilliant experience. We will always remember our exciting day on the water learning about whales and dolphins!
