STEM Challenge – Building Bridges
This week, we also became engineers! The children were set the challenge of building a bridge that:
“We had to make sure it was strong but also look nice,” explained Maisie.
“We tested it carefully to see if the bears would fall!” Elliott.
“After constructing our bridges, we created a walk-through gallery to admire everyone’s hard work” – Lochlen.
The children evaluated each other’s designs, graded the bridges against the success criteria, and confidently presented their work to the class. It was wonderful to see such thoughtful feedback and pride in their creations.
Instructional Writing – Making Pancakes
We have also started a new unit on instructional writing. The children learned how to write clear, step-by-step instructions.
“You have to tell people exactly what to do,” Ewan noted.
“You need bossy verbs like mix, pour and stir!” Ezme commented.
A big thank you to Brogan, who kindly demonstrated how to make pancake mixture for us. Watching the process helped everyone understand how important it is to write instructions clearly and in the correct order.
It has been a fantastic week full of creativity, teamwork, and thoughtful learning. We are very proud of all the hard work.
